Hi

my system is quite old especially my GPU as it no longer able to handle new game
i planning to upgrade my GPU

i not able to decide whether going for Nvidia or AMD
as i never use AMD GPU before
the Nvidia DLSS 2.0 is very attractive but my monitor only support freesync

can anyone recommend whether i go for Nvidia or AMD
if go for nvidia i wish to get 3070ti or 3080 as i wanted to last for very long time
if go for AMD which model should i get that almost as powerful as 3070ti or 3080

furthermore, should i upgrade the rest or they should be still useable and won't bottleneck my new GPU

NOTE: can't provide budge yet as the GPU price seems to be dropping , not looking for god tier system. just want a system that able to handle ultra 1440p setting as my current system only provide me 30-50fps for resident evil 8 with extreme low setting

Asumming normal market scenario you'd be getting somewhere around xx70 series or similar equivalent from amd

I have a i7 6700k and the best balance was a GTX 1080(RTX 2060S).  With a GTX 1080 ti(= RTX 2080) it left too much GPU performance not used so I replaced it with an i7 8700k.

When I upgraded to a RTX 2080 ti(= 3070 ti) even the i7 8700k struggled at stock so all my CPUs after it are either 5ghz intels like my i9 9900k or Ryzen 5000 series like my 5800x.

So when you get a 3070 ti or 3080 it will be your CPU holding you back a lot.

What I would do is get a RTX 3060/3070 for your currant computer and save/plan to build a modern 8 core plus computer to use a high end graphics card.

If you plan to build a 10/11th gen Intel or Ryzen 5000 soon just get the 3070 ti/3080 as soon as you can get one at MSRP.

I have got a 3080 and a 3080 ti this month at MSRP so it is becoming doable.

Oh my
i totally forgot about bottleneck
sadly it mean i need to upgrade alot of stuff
CPU AMD Ryzen 5900x seems the best choice compare to intel i9(alot of bad feedback)

so here are what i might upgrade to, can anyone comment if is good combination or any changes made
the main purpose is not causing bottleneck
CPU Ryzen 5900x

Motherboard : gigabyte: B550 AORUS PRO

RAM: x2  KINGSTON HyperX® Predator RGB 16GB 3200mhz, or should i go for x4?

HardDrive: might add 1 new Nvme ssd or use back old hard drive
PSU: currently already using crosair 1000w platinum , should be still usable
GPU: 3070ti or 3080

done some digging and manage to find benchmark result

https://www.gpucheck.com/gpu/nvidia-geforce-rtx-3080/intel-core-i7-6700k-4-00ghz/

looks like i7 6700k did get bottleneck but at 1440p it did not get huge bottleneck
the game i play like battlefield 5 able to reach over 170fps with ultra setting
with this result i can slowly upgrade my rig , starting with 3080 first
originally thought it will get huge bottleneck
