in Australia the rtx 2070 is 739 AU and the rtx 2080 super is 1.1k

CPU: intel core i7 6700t

GPU: Gigabyte AORUS RTX2080S Super 8G Graphics Card  or  gigabyte Windforce RTX2070 8GB

RAM: corsair vengeance lpx 16gb (2x8 GB) DDR4 2133mhz

CPU COOLER: Cooler Master Hyper 212 LED Turbo ARGB CPU Cooler

PSU: Thermaltake Smart RGB 600 W

CASE: thermaltake versa j25 rgb atx mid tower

MOTHERBOARD: Asus z170 ar ATX Lga 1151

HDD: im going to re use a HDD from my old pc not sure what brand it is, otherwise ill just get a SSD if it does not work properly.

so basically you might have noticed the CPU and Motherboard are a little old and that is because im trying to re use the CPU from my last pc.

i have spent a few weeks researching the components and how to build a pc but i thought its better to check with the veterans before buying things.

also the rgb stuff was actually cheaper when comparing money to performance.

and the fans are coming with the case i believe pre installed.

im also aware of the potential bottleneck from the gpu and cpu but have a way around it if its a problem.

- Cheers in advance

Getting a "T" series intel cpu makes no sense if you want a regular desktop. You should better go with thee regular i7-6700.

"T" series intel cpu`s are designed for less heat output and less power consumption which is really not a problem unless you are building a Mini-ITX build.

Bit off topic, but where are you planning on getting your parts in Australia?

largely from centrecom.

I'd recommend going in-store with centrecom, I've had some issues with shipping from those guys sadly. Still a good place with good prices though.

ps. dont forget to quote so that people can see your replies 👍

Yeah for sure. Sucks we're not blessed with a 1,000 different tech outlets down here aye

you'd be surprised, MicroCenter is just about the only reliable tech parts outlet here in the states and while Best Buy does sell some I'd hardly call them a computer parts store with their meager-at-best selection. People drove 5-6 hours just to try their hand at camping out for a 30-series back a few months ago because there's only like 25 or so MicroCenters out here

what do you think about the build up top?

I swear you Americans are a different breed when it comes to waiting for new tech. The biggest lines we get over here are at CentreLink so scabs can get their government payments and nobody is driving 5-6 hours for that

I have just been observing the thread because others have already said it about as well as I could. It's alright, a 6700T is a huge bottleneck for you but if you're sticking to your guns and recycling it then what you have should be good. If you want to plan your computer with upgradeability in mind and your board supports XMP I'd try for a 3200MHz CL16 kit of RAM that you can keep when/if you upgrade your CPU+Motherboard later on but if you don't care about upgrading those parts then you're good to go. A Hyper212 will keep that CPU cool as it's already a low-power CPU by design, the RAM will get you by with a cheap CPU like that, the 2080S/2070 is way overkill but hey, if it works for you it works.

I'd at least recommend an NVMe drive, if nothing other than the cheap 500GB SN550 WD sells for like $50 USD, just because it'll speed up Windows drastically, but even if not NVMe you NEED an SSD in this system. Could be the SATA 850 EVO or the NVMe SN550 500GB, just something with an SSD is better than a HDD and always will be.

(okay ignore this I broke the LTT forums somehow lol)

thanks for the advice but if i may ask another question what graphics card would you suggest in place of the 2070 / 2080 s?

I was thinking of getting a Kingston SKC2500M8 500GB M.2 NVMe PCIe but people were saying I should 500GB WD, so @Riley 118b it seems like the way to go.

I mean the 2080S/2070 is something you could upgrade into later on, like eventually moving up to Ryzen 5000 or Intel 10th gen, but again if you don't want to upgrade and want to just keep this a consistent build a 1070ti or 2060S is fine for you

ok, thanks for the info on the Drive.

in terms of the graphics card i want it to last a few years before needing to upgrade again so basically "future proofing" and i know that nothing is future proof but as close as i can get to it in my loose budget. but thanks for the suggestion.
