Wifi bad for no discernable reason

Hey everyone,

 

I built my roommate a PC recently, but his wifi has been consistently bad and I'm not sure why. He's running a TP-Link AC1200 adapter with the drivers installed.

 

We're both 1 wall away from the router, yet his connection is far worse - about half my download speed and frequent stuttering that I almost never experience. 

 

Tried reinstalling the driver, really not sure what else could be the issue. Unfortunately ethernet is not an option. 

Lenovo Ideapad 720s 14 inch ------ One day I'll have a desktop again...
