When I first got my 5950x my scores where great in things like cinebench, but as my pc has gotten a little older my scores have gotten a little lower.

Now I'm thinking this has something to deal with me no longer being on a clean windows install with barley any drivers and programs. I just want to check if my theory has merit.

What do you score? curious. Also a 5950x owner

Also, wouldn't doubt it, more programs = more background processes

Absolutely this is the cause. CPU's don't inherently slow down over time, unless you horribly abuse them (And that's super specfic to Zen 2 and Zen 3 under PBO. Other CPU's will begin crashing or not booting once "worn out")

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Yeah that's what I thought. Also yeah I think it is just having the older windows install that is lowering the score a bit, because I originally had this cpu on my old ssd, and I remembered the scores being about what they are now and when I got a fresh  windows install on my new ssd scores where much better.
