I currently have two LCD monitors, they are both pretty old. They both only have VGA out. I have a GTX 660 so I have to use a convertor: VGA to DVI. I'm waiting for a newer monitor to go on sale, but it may take a while. I want both monitors to run at the same time and one of the solutions is to buy a VGA splitter. Do they have any negative consequences? Would it reduce make my monitors run slower? Is it worth my while to just buy a low end card for my second monitor?

With a splitter, you will only be able to copy the first screen, I'd recommend getting a HDMI to VGA adapter.
