Hi, I'm new to LinusTechTips and I have just finished building my first computer (yay!) except for one thing...

When I plug in my CPU fan into any other fan header, the fan works. When I plug in my CPU fan into the CPU_FAN header, it only works sometimes. If I plug any case fan into the CPU_FAN header, I have no issues with the fan not spinning.

My specs:

windows 10 os (but i haven't even installed it yet)

core i9 10850K

asus prime z590-p

cooler master hyper 212 evo

next h510

g skill 3000 mHz 32 gb (2 sticks)

samsung 980 500gb ssd

quadro p2200

evga ga 550w 80 plus gold

I hope you are able to help me, thank you!

congrats on the new rig! there's a setting in Asus's BIOS, I believe under Monitoring, that has a line for CPU_FAN and you can set that to Ignore, and that should disable the warning. Had to do the same on a friend's ROG STRIX X570-E. If you google it I know for a fact there's guides on how to remove the warning for it at the very least, assuming the fan is all working right.

yea, so i was looking online about the issue and found the tutorial that i think you are referencing on how to ignore the cpu fan. i guess my primary concern is that it doesn't turn on when plugged into the CPU_FAN header.

is it ok if the cpu cooler fan is not plugged into the CPU_FAN header and is plugged into the CHA_FAN1 header?

if so, is there a program that i can use on windows that will monitor my cpu fan on this CHA_FAN1 header?

thank you so much for your response!!!!

you can put the CPU fan on any header. Just make sure you disable the CPU_FAN warning and set the fan curve on that chassis fan to something more aggressive, and make sure it's using the CPU's reported temperature for that curve and not some other sensor.
