Soo I've been thinking about upgrading my set up and it came to mind why not buy a laptop and just use it like you would a desktop? I've always liked small form factor and this would be just that. Does anyone on this form do this or would it be better just to build a new rig?

Depends what you're upgrading too.

As long as you can plug everything into it that you need then there's not going to be a massive difference in usability between this and a regular desktop. apart from the fact that you can then unplug the laptop and take it with you if you need to go somewhere.

If you're looking for inspiration check our /r/battletops over on reddit

What do you think about the laptop being plugged in for a long period of time. I feel like it wouldn't be good for the battery. Besides that any laptop that's been release in the past 2 years will out perform my current build my only hurdle is to find one with enough storage that's also at a good price lo

depends on the laptop you get.

More and more laptops these days are including a way to limit the battery charge percentage, so it wouldn't matter how long it's plugged in for, but obliviously that comes with the side effect of having less battery to use when you unplug, unless you disable the limiter to fully charge up when you know you're about to head out.

It's just a matter of doing a bit of research on the laptop you want to buy to make sure this is an option if it's something you really care about. If it's mainly going to be used plugged in, then it won't really matter.

I did not know they had laptops with limiters for the battery that's good to know. Yea if I did this I think I'd have it plugged in at least 80 percent of the time. Thanks for all the info I think I'll head over to that reddit form to ask some questions haha have a good one.

Laptop mobility is amazing, if your budget/performance needs allow for a laptop go for it.

More laptops can handle long term charging these days (always use a surge protector), I know manufacturers like dell have smart charging that will preserve battery life & not charge it if it's full.

Yea I was looking at the Alienware M15 but they solder on the damn RAM so Id have to go 32gb instead of the 16 cause I wanted to upgrade it at a later date. Also I think Alienware is the only laptop that give you full power to the gpu on their laptops the one I was looking at was the 3070 that's $1800 and the gpu can use 140 watts
