A SAMSUNG 860 EVO or a 870 EVO would do the job 🙂

Be careful to not buy the QVO.

QVO is still a good drive for context. it just doesn't last as long because QLC is inferior to TLC (TLC is what the samsung evo drives are). but QLC is also cheaper so you have to weigh your options.

you can also buy other drives that are not samsung. samsung drives are usually more expensive so if you are looking for cheaper options, I would look elsewhere

If you have a Mac with a G5 processor make sure to get a 120gb drive and below since those systems have a maximum drive capacity limit of 160gb. Anything above 160gb will not work.

Ok. Then any SSD should work. Most ssd's you can buy will probably last more than the life of the powermac. But the thing is that Mac os Leaperod doesn't support TRIM which will cause the SSD to become very slow over time.

And SSD should be fine since that Mac only uses the SATA 1 interface which means it will get botttlenecked to 150 MB/s

If the SATA interface isn't working then how can you install the OS?

The drives still work so I was going to put it in a Sata to usb dock and duplicate both drives over to ssd and then use those with usb to sata cables

That's the problem. The powermac g5 only has USB 1.1 and 2.0 and those are very slow.

USB 1.1 :- 0.8 MB/s

USB 2.0:- 25 MB/s

So putting a SSD won't solve the issue. You need to fix the SATA interface first and then the system will perform fast even with those old drives.

Then use a different SATA data cable and plug it into your motherboard. It looks like this :-
