USB 2.0/3.0

I was wondering if any USB device would work with USB 3.0 or does it HAVE TO be made for USB 3.0?

USB is backward compatible. USB 2.0 devices will work in USB 3.0 ports; USB 3.0 devices will work in USB 2.0 ports. You will just be limited in transfer speeds

CPU: i7-3820 | Cooler: Be Quiet Dark Rock Pro 2 | Mobo: Asus Sabretooth X79Memory: 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LP | Storage: Crucial M500 240GB & 480GB SSD + Western Digital BLACK SERIES 1 TB |

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 780ti Superclocked | PSU: 1000W Be Quiet Dark Power Pro 10 | Monitors: 3 x AOC i2367Fh 23.0"

All hail the mighty Flying Spaghetti Monster. May he touch you with his noodely appendages

Hi Tim Henry,

No you are perfectly fine to run a USB 2.0 device in a USB 3.0 socket there would be zero problems, it will just run at stander USB 2.0 speed, if it were the other way around, then you could have issues as if you plug a USB 3.0 device into a USB 2.0 socket it runs at lower speeds.

In answer to your question, you are totally fine :)

USB 3.0 plugs are the same as any other plug, it just has more pins for faster transfer speeds :)

I fix computers and computer accessories... sometimes... when I want to...

USB v3 is backward compatible with v2, but if you have a USB 3 device I recommend plugging it into a free USB 3.0 port to take advantage of the speed boost.
