switch problems

Hello i have problem with  my main computer (laptop) and server on 1gig switch. When server is turned off i dont have access to the internet on laptop. But when i power on or unplug server from the switch i have that access again

the laptop is using the IP of the server to access the internet.

Thats my guess.

1. How are these devices physically connected? A diagram would help.
2. Is this server acting as a gateway/router for the rest of the network?

Isn’t this your equipment on your network?

 

Is the main computer’s NIC configured with any IP information that requires the server?

 

What is the server used for?
