Hi,

I colleague of mine asked me to build a computer for him. I've selected the following components but I would like you guys give me some input on my choises.

MSI Z87M GAMING
Corsair Obsidian Serie 350D
Corsair Hydro Series H100i
Corsair RM Series 650 Watt
ASUS GTX780-DC2OC-3GD5
Intel Core i7-4770K
WD Black Desktop WD1003FZEX
Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB DDR3 Kit
Crucial SSD M550 Series 250Gb or Samsung Evo 256Gb
Dell UltraSharp U2414H (other idea?)

The main porpouse of the computer is to play games at full hd or 1920*1200 and not to upgrade it for the next 2 years(at least).

The store i'm using is www.computeruniverse.net/en/ and the purchase will be done without vat, arround 1500€. To help you guys it is arround 1800€ with vat.

Thanks in advance

jvbatista

Have a nice day ;)...

Does your colleague only need this system for gaming? If so, you can easily change out the i7 for an i5 instead. Current games doesn't need the 4 extra hyperthreading cores.
When it comes to choice of monitor, I'd always go for 120hz in either asus or benQ.

Other than that, I think you chosen an elegant solution, with respect to cost.

My first suggestions: Change PSU to EVGA NEX650G. Get a 4670K instead. You could get 8GB (2x4GB) RAM for now to save a little money and then get 2 more sticks later when you need them.

For a monitor, I would suggest this http://www.computeruniverse.net/en/products/90500498/acer-h236hlbmjd.asp

I decided to throw together a build for you. Though I used the German PCPartPicker, all prices are in Euros. I'll let you remove components that you feel are unnecessary for now (i.e. peripherals and fans). The PC falls around the same budget you set.

He'll want good headphones for gaming, I assume. I don't usually recommend headsets, but the Sennheiser PC 360 has the same drivers as another really good pair of headphones, so it's okay. You could pick the PB variant of the Asus monitor to save money. If you want to switch out the case, change the fans, too. Most of the budget went into the GPU and SSD. I wanted to put in a 780 Ti, but I wanted to keep the system balanced across the board (good storage, cooling, etc). A 750w PSU is really all you need; you could even power the system with a 650w, but since the options on German PCPartPicker were limited, I just picked the better deal.

It's good, but mind reminding me why do you put a mini ITX tower in when you already have the normal ATX board?

Also a board that's almost as expensive as the CPU might be a bit overkill, but with that much money it's ok.

I don't have the atx board already. Why mitx instead of ATX? small and powerfull, that's why. For gaming the 4670k is more than enought, the 4770k would be overkill for gaming and to put that I had to remove the hdd or go to a 780 instead of a 780Ti.

Ah sorry, my bad, when I saw the Maximus brand I immediately assume that it's an ATX board. And what I mean about the overkilled motherboard is that you can cut down abit on the motherboard itself, not the CPU.Keep in mind that you are going with a K version of the i5 4670, meaning you want to overclock, meaning that you WILL need a CPU Cooler, so keep that in mind if you still want a miniITX Tower and board.

Because of that the build Dragonzeanse put up is quite good, except that I dont think you need that much case fan, and I suggesting changing the Mobo to MSI Z87 GD65 (basically a better version of the G45 he choose) and change the CPU Cooler to Dark Rock 3 if you still want a air cooler, change to smt like H100i if you want water cooler.

The overclock will be with the Asus tool, so the h100i is more than enough.

Yes, but I doubt that a mini ITX will fit the H100i, and your final list dont have it as well so...
