Best External Drive for Final Cut Pro

Cvdasfg

Hey Everyone,

I have a iMac Pro. I've been using Final cut pro to edit / create videos but have been running into some serious storage issues. I'm looking for a external drive I could use that would match the performance I'm getting with my internal storage. I edit native footage from my mac so usually 4096 × 2304 footage.

Thanks for any advice!

You just need a thunderbolt external drive or drive bay that supports NVMe drives. I have a 1TB Crucial external SSD that works over Thunderbolt 3/USB-C, read/writes at about 1GB/s. Thunderbolt specific drives should be able to go faster. Just off the top of my head, OWC makes these sort of devices, have for a while now: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/OWC/TB3EX4M2SL/?gclid=Cj0KCQjw8IaGBhCHARIsAGIRRYrTZqIBbq2lDYBla0Ao_0u8CIRy25-sV8WgxOoGXgGpCI1u3nICKFYaAtJqEALw_wcB

Like this one that supports up to 2800MB/s transfer speeds. They probably have cheaper ones if you need less drives, but none of them come that cheap and you usually need to add your own drives, but you can get some freakily fast external storage. There's combo ones that fit HDDs as well if you want mass storage in the same box.

Didn't realize I could get enclosures like that and put my own drives in them. I'll explore that route as well, thanks for the info!
