I have a set of drives I want to search through (why would anybody want to do that theses days?). They are from a Compaq ML370 Gen 1, which has long since gone, only the drives remain. I have obtained the hot swap drive cage, a Smart 3200 array controller (which I'm 90% sure was what we originally used). The drive cage is powered by a 6 pin connector which was a problem as it is Compaq specific. I've managed to obtain a hot swap power board (292235-001) from a Gen 3 with the correct connector. My plan was to just cut the cables and wire it into a suitable PSU. Now we get to the problem, there is a 12V and 5V connection, 2 x 0V (black) and 2 more black cables which go to the power board and are labelled on the board as P5 & P6. Does anyone know what these are? It would be easy to assume they are 0V because they're black, but I'd rather be sure and not risk the damage.

Thanks

Take some very detailed images from the power board (both sides!!) and put them in here, so we can evaluate where the various traces on it go to.

Isn't it easier to just source another ML370? Doing this wrong might fry the board or the drives.

Old ass servers aren't THAT difficult to find generally.

Yes you're right. I'm in the UK, I've come across a couple in France, but they were about £500 - £700 each and appeared to be just chassis, I couldn't find out if they had Processors, VRMs, Memory etc. There are also a couple in the States that are reasonably priced and I was talking to the vendor until I asked for a shipping price and then it all went quiet.

I suppose it doesn't have to be an ML370 of that Gen either, anything with that Compaq power plug. This seemed (at the time) like the easiest path as it seems most servers of that vintage have been broke for parts.

Thanks for your interest
