MoBo, CPU, RAM, and PSU are a bare minimum to get the system to POST.

all of these parts must be good. if your RAM is suspect, only use one stick.

monitor is only required to see it post. GPU is needed if the CPU doesn't have integrated graphics.

if you do not have a GPU in the PCIe slots, the CPU will try to put video out any on motherboard connectors.

Hi, recently my friend had to sell his pc due to unfortunate circumstances. I remembered that in a bin I had an old MOBO, CPU, and ram, but they were in there due to some sort of damage causing them to no longer work. While I'm not 100% sure, I believe the issue was with the CPU and some bent pins, which I found and bent back to what I think is a good position. I would love to tell him about this and help him out, but I don't want to get his hopes up if it doesn't work. I have my own rig and I'm wondering what all I would have to in terms of swapping parts to make sure they work.

My guess is to make sure it JUST POSTS, I would need:
(Motherboard, CPU, ram)
PSU
and maybe a GPU? (reguardless of if its NEEDED I would likely use it anyways since its an easy swap.

Assuming that's all I need, another question would be with the PSU. Would it be best to completely remove it from my current build to test out this new one? That's what I'm thinking right now and that's making me antsy of doing it. I've had (albeit temporary) boot issues with my pc fairly regularly requiring me to reseed my ram, reset CMOS, etc. and this was my first build, so I'm not 100% confident with everything going smoothly.

Any and all help is appreciated greatly!

correct (and a monitor of course)

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

We can't Benchmark like we used to, but we have our ways. One trick is to shove more GPUs in your computer. Like the time I needed to NV-Link, because I needed a higher HeavenBench score, so I did an SLI, which is what they called NV-Link back in the day. So, I decided to put two GPUs in my computer, which was the style at the time. Now, to add another GPU to your computer, costs a new PSU. Now in those days PSUs said OCZ on them, "Gimme 750W OCZs for an SLI" you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah, the important thing was that I had two GPUs in my rig, which was the style at the time! They didn't have RGB PSUs at the time, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big green ones.

Alright, I appreciate the confirmation with this. That leaves me with just this question then.

Do I need to completely remove the PSU from my personal system (unplug everything and remove from case), or can some of this steps be skipped over? Thanks alot!

yes, if you do not have a spare PSU you would need to use yours. depending on how well dressed your cables are, you may need to completely remove it.

if your cables aren't dressed well at all, just hang your PSU cables out the side of your case. it's gross, but it works.
