Is it typical to see VRAM temps between 98C and 108C in an EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra? I've never had a card this high end, so I'm not sure what to expect. My 2070 Super VRAM temps were always under 70C, so seeing these high temps is concerning with that as my reference.

Yeah the 3090s are definitely hotter than they should be, it’s been an issue. The best thing is to get a water block on tbh but I understand that that’s expensive, there are also heat sinks you can put on the vram. Hope this helps!

IIRC 110C is maximum temperature of most GDDR6 rams allowed to operate, also IIRC this is a widespread issue across all RTX30xx cards with GDDR6 and you might benefit from adding a thermal pad (might not be the case for your card, you gotta make sure that space between heatsink and chips are not too much) or using a complete pcb waterblock (if there is any for your card).

i think just G6x, not G6

G6 doesnt have sensors so -shrug-

but they dont consume as much power as G6x

Generally with NiceHash

quickminer? or regular miner and you do your own OC?

I imagine Nicehash is tougher on memory than any game would be

pretty much yea, mining ETH is heavy on VRAM, i havent tested with anything higher

so 108c is quite normal

my experience:

3090 msi gaming x trio, reaches 108-110c when mining

3090 gigabyte gaming OC, reaches 110c and throttling when mining, changing thermal pad brought it down to 92c on stock, 98-102c after OC

3090 Galax HOF reaches around 106-110c when mining

all my cards are in open bench, but ambient temps is a tad high at roughly 32c

i do have a 3080 FTW3, reaches 108-110c when mining as well, though it used to be 102c few days ago

though all my cards temps have raised so it's not alone, probably higher ambient temp

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

I'm using Quickminer and have the optimization set to Medium. Thanks for sharing your experience, it's good to know that this is probably normal.

you should try to lower it anyhow, if you can

It's GDDR6X, and specifically the 3090, because it has VRAM on the front and back. The VRAM on the back doesn't get cooled as well and gets much hotter.
