2080ti / 2080 dual monitors

Hi I have a question regarding dual monitors lagging when running at the same refresh rate, i ended up buying another 144hz monitor to pair with my 240hz XL2540. I dialed down the refresh rate on my XL2540 to 144hz to match with the other 144hz monitor but it seems that if there are two display connected i will experience fps drops and unbearable amount of stuttering at stable 144fps though i suspect the frametime messed up. But once i disconnect the other 144hz monitor its buttery smooth again. Is this normal? I tried it on two different system both with a 9900k and a 2080 / 2080ti.

No, both running DP from the gpu
