Laptop Audio Jack Static PLEASE HELP!!

Hello, my brothers laptop (asus g750jw) has a faulty audio port I believe. Whenever headphones are plugged in they have a loud static that sounds like the inside of the computer running. What troubleshooting should I go about in helping him fix this? At what point should we RMA it and ask for the audio jack to be fixed? Please help!

P.S. the noise only comes out when you use headphones, the speakers work fine.

have you tried multiple headphones? try making sure the device audio format is set to the right sample rate is set to default to make sure thats not the issue.
