So i'll cut the long backstory... i've come across the Razer Kraken 7.1's Gaming Headset and i'm interested in getting it but firstly I want to know one simple thing, is.it.good?
Now If I were to get it keep in mind it will be my 2nd headset i've owned (currently have the Razer Carcharias and they're ok I guess. Owned for about 6 months). If you have or HAD this headset or know anyone who has had history with it could you let me know what you thought? I don't care for the hate Razer gets for all their products breaking, I just want to know if they're worth the $160NZD i'll be paying for them. The reason i'm looking at them is the Surround Sound. I know it's virtual and not true but is it good surround sound? I also would like to know how good the bass is.
Thanks in advance to anyone who replies

Nay, because i have the kraken pros and my friend has the 7.1 and we both agree they are the most uncomfortable headsets ever and it make everything sound muddy and the bass is too overpowering

nay I have the Kraken pro's and I think they are great but the 7.1's are just Pro's with lights and built in virtual surround sound that you can download from Razer anyway.

Yay for me.

I think the customisation in synapse balances it out, meaning you can turn bass up or down, sound normalisation on and off etc... The mic is pretty good too aswell, mine doesn't pick up background noise and is clear.

As for the surround, its amazing. I really do feel like in games like cs:go I have the unfair advantage.

The headset may be a little uncomfortable at first however, but it only feels heavy if you aren't used to it or use it for 5 hours plus, but I just take a break if it does feel heavy as that's a good indicator that I'm spending too long on the computer.

The build quality is sturdy and the mic which can be retracted into the earcup is an especially useful feature, along with the mute button on the end of the microphone.

As always, the sleeved cable and gold USB are especially nice from Razer.

Basically, get this if you want an all round headset that excels in gaming. However if you want a headset more so for music I'd look into other options, that's why I use speakers for music and my headset for gaming, however it still performs well with music, especially bass heavy songs.

Intel i7 4770k @4.5ghz, Asus Maximus VI Formula, Asus Geforce GTX 780, Corsair h100i, Corsair Neutron GTX 240gb, WD Black 1tb, Corsair 750D, Corsair AX860i w/ Sleeved Cables.

I rarely leave the build logs section.

It's reviews like these that actually help. Lots of other people just say they break easily, or that any Razer product for that matter breaks easy :P

Thanks Aw27 for the help. What would you rate the surround sound using CS:GO as an example? Because my friend has the Tiamat's and they're TRUE surround sound so he tells me not to get the Kraken 7.1's because it's just virtual... :c

I wouldn't say it makes a difference.

The way these games work is that the footsteps are so much more distinct than other sounds, you can pick them out with any speakers and with the kraken 7.1 you can make it perfect for yourself. Basically, there is a sound normalisation which limits the frequencies/brings them closer volume I think. Anyway, with this you can fine tune it so that footsteps are super noticable and you can also tune the bass boost to the correct setting. Also in synapse the EQ means it can be tuned even further.

Finally, in calibration the 7.1 can be adjusted so the sound isn't coming from a "fixed location in the earcup" if that makes any sense to you, which I don't think real 7.1 can do. I saw someone mention it before and no, Razer Surround will not give you the same level of calibration as the 7.1s.

I've looked this up before and true 7.1 won't give you an advantage unless the virtual drivers are messing up, which they won't. This is because the way they work is just the distribution of sound around the earcup instead of having different speakers/drivers.

Here are some screenshots of the synapse and some pictures I took for you, they're only iphone rushed pictures but oh well. - Also, the headphones fold in which is useful if you're moving them around

nay, apparently razer headsets in general aren't built to last. By the looks of it the kraken is not exception.
