So I have an Omen laptop with core i5 9300h @2.4ghz boost @4.1ghz, gtx 1650 and 16 gigs of ram (for context). I'm having trouble with games such as valorant since my cpu clock speeds are reduced for some reason. For example, when I play Minecraft I get around 4ghz speeds (Omen gaming centre says around 40% utilisation) at around 80 degrees celsius. However, when I play other games such as Valorant or Arma 3 my speeds reduce between 3.1-3.4ghz at the same temperatures as I get when I play minecraft. I'm using task manager and omen gaming centre to monitor the temps, speed and utilisation. Does anyone know if this is a feature of my processor or if there is a way I can get this fixed?

My guess: The CPU's clock speed is lowered to control the temps and power usage because more cores are being utilized.

Yes. Speedstep and TurboBoost dynamically adjust the frequency to the load. It's normal.

Main: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D, Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti, 16 GB 4400 MHz DDR4 Linux - Fedora

Is there any way I can stop it from decreasing? I've tried changing the power settings but it hasn't changed anything. I have heard there is something in the BIOS but I can't find it

2.4 GHz is your base speed, so you're in TurboBoost territory. Nothing you can do to force it higher, as it's a locked CPU and motherboard.

You'll need to find the turbo limit reason, and address that if possible.

Make sure you're in balanced or high performance power mode to keep in the 45 W cTDP.

yes...i too had that issue....but then here is the solution....

you might wanna download throttlestop...

this process might increase power consumption and increase the amount of heat produced...but the results would be promising...like..i made my i5-8265u perform better than most of the 4 cored cpus(ex.r5 3400g)(including urs at stock settings)

whatever you do....dont mess up with the voltages in throttlestop unless you know what you are doing

THis is the video which i used to disable power throttling...not sure whether will it work on your device...but i think trying is not bad after all

before that run a cinebench test in order to know the difference between the performance of your stock settings and the tweaked setting

are 9th gen CPUUs locked???

because i am able to undervolt and disable the TDP limits and get that insane amount of extra performance (mine is an 8th gen)

Power limit locking is done by the vendor (Whoever made the laptop/motherboard/BIOS.) Won't be insane if there isn't a lot of thermal head room or if the VRM isn't up to the job.
