I am setting up a shared mass storage drive from my desktop to my laptop both windows 10 and I am using this guide How To Share Drives Between Windows PCs With Windows Network Drives. Under the bolded section 2 I am having issues with the 3rd point trying to input my username and password. I keep getting "The specified network password is not correct." in red.

My best guess would be that it is because the 2 devices are on separate Microsoft accounts and if that is the case how do I go about fixing it.

Also if I should have put this under networking please let me know and I will fix the mistake as soon as possible.

You would need to use the username and password of the machine that is hosting the share. Or, you can add an “everyone” to the user access list so no password is required. I’m not at my PC to take a screenshot of where that is, but hopefully google can help you get there.

You did take note that you need to put the user/pass of the used you shared under on the other computer, right?

to specify the drive is physically attached to the desktop and I am putting the desktops credentials into the laptop to try and gain access, if I understand you correctly I need to add the laptop information on the drive permissions despite having "everyone" selected with full control

That's one way of doing it yes, it should avoid you needing to provide the username and password as by default it will try the same ones you logged in with (I think, not tried this in a long time).

But you don't HAVE to do it that way, the important thing is simply that you provide a username/password that is valid on the desktop when trying to access a drive remotely from it.
