SLI 4GB vram with 2GB vram 670 ?

wsee911

So I currently have a ASUS DCUII 670 2GB vram.

I am planning to add another 4GB 670 to SLI.

So my question is will this work better for high resolution gaming like triple screens ? because one card has only 2GB vram and the other with 4GB vram.

Obviously the 4GB card is better for high resolution but will the 2GB card interfere ?

thanks if anyone can help

to my knowledge SLI only needs a matching GPU, not matching VRAM Size (could be wrong), since one card only has 2GB it will probably limit the other card

When you have 2 cards in SLI it mirrors the textures to VRAM, therefore you are only as fast as your slowest card x2. So you can't mirror 4gbs to 2gb, but you can mirror 2gb to 4gb, so you will effectively still be limited to 2GB.

Ok so it will be limited then i guess i wont be buying a 4GB 670. Thanks for the info guys.

But is 2 2GB 670 sufficient for triple screen gaming in the highest graphic settings ?

No, 2GB of VRAM isn't sufficient for 3 screens at max settings, it might be okay on the lowest settings (game dependent).

Ok ...  guess I will have to just wait for NVIDIAs new graphic card line up.

Thanks again James

Depends on the game. 2gb vram is fine for lots of games @ 3 x1080p. Games where it isn't you have to turn settings down anyway because the 670s won't have enough grunt.
