If you want to upgrade from a 9900KS, don't it's still good. If you want to buy a 9900KS, don't. A 5600X/5800X is faster, but not worth upgrading to. Same goes for 11th Gen Intel. Unless you're starting a new build, don't go for anything else. Posted May 19, 2021 Upgrade 8700K, that's where I'd do the 9900K while waiting on DDR5 mainstream. It's a hell of a processor. Thoroughly spank a 3700/3800X with it. If buying into the platform in it's entirety, there's always 11th Gen Intel or a 5800X which needs nothing short of a custom water loop it's self, which would be a better choice IMO. Situation dependent. Is there a 3rd choice? Both yes and no? Yes, it's fast and plenty of threads No, platform is dead ended twice over already. Overkill level of good. Rendering? Not the best. Stuck in an mITX box and still need high performance? Less than ideal. Also the most important question: do you have it already and thinking about upgrade, or have something else thinking about going for the 9900k?
