Losing display randomly

Go to solution Solved by Seeks-Nom,

Very late update:

For anyone having this problem and looking for a fix, underclocking the gpu by about 10% on radeon software fixed the problem for me. Looks like it was the gpu afterall xD
Thanks to everyone for helping!

I looked thorough many posts but cant seem to find something helpful albeit there are many posts covering this.

I was playing wow and suddenly the display went off. The sound that was playing when the event happened was playing on loop so the computer was not running properly without displaying anytyhing.

This same issue happened to me couple weeks ago so i knew a little as to what to expect. I shut the computer down holding the power button, when i turned it on again i would hear a really loud fan noise coming from the case although still no display. All the lights on the mb, gpu, keyboard and mouse would light up but it would not boot. After repeating this "shut down-turn on-loud fan-no boot" sequence 10 or so times the fan noise went away and the computer booted up properly. Fan noise comes from the gpu.

As i mentioned this is the second time this happened in the past month and i havent had any problems for a while now till this. Many posts that i went thorough mentioned it possibly being a psu issue although my psu is pretty new and is one of the better ones on the market. Pc is relatively newly built except the graphics card. I dont think it is heat related either because i can run a benchmark test for half an hour and gpu wont go over 80-ish degrees. Gpu is at factory settings other than fan curve which i made it ramp up faster and higher. I think it is a gpu related issue although i am not sure and dont know what the issue is even if it is gpu related.

System:

XFX AMD Radeon RX 580 GTS XXX Edition 8GB

Ryzen 3600

8x2 hyperx fury 3200mhz ram

MSI B-450 A PRO MAX (MS-7B86)

Seasonic focus gx650 gold

Generally these issues are a sign of a failing power supply.

Or a dodgy mobo

Or a bad CPU

or....

or....

or...

THe trick here is to start to eliminate things one at a time.

Start with updating the BIOS to your mobo.

Secondly, don't turn off your system.

Third, monitor both CPU and GPU temps while you are doing things.

Does it happen at idle, or under load?

Look in the Event Viewer log, both under System and Application section, and see if there are any Red ! marks that might prove useful.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

On event viewer app section has no errors. Under system i found kernel-power 41 which states system was shut down unexpectedly. It also states it might be because power loss.

I updated bios now and during the update cpu was 33 degrees. Currently while writing this cpu is 38 and gpu is 48 degrees.

It is difficult to test what happens exactly because it doesnt happen often and i do not know how to recreate the issue.

Although if it is indeed a psu issue (seems like it) i am disappointed. Would like to know if there is anything i can do to help since sending it to warranty means 2 weeks of no computer at minimum.

I opened the game and checked the temps and looks like gpu at %100 at 82 degrees with highest cpu temp at 56

Also thank you for your help

Update: following this websites advice https://www.minitool.com/backup-tips/kernel-power-41.html i disabled auto restart, set "turn off hard disk" setting to never and turned off fast startup. Hope it will help

so after my last post it has happened twice so far. I managed to record the temps and voltages and such from the gpu drivers app. Found absolutely nothing that stands out as a big spike in terms of anything.

Digging more into the event viewer i found an error under app section involving radeon software. I would copy it straight away here but it is not in english so heres an attempt to make it understandable:

Spoiler

name of the app that "errrored": Radeonsoftware.exe, version: 10.1.2.1862, time stamp: 0x6075cb03
faulty module name?: Qt5Qml.dll, sürüm: 5.14.1.0, zaman damgası: 0x5e7065bb
special situation code: 0xc0000005
how far the error is? 0x000000000016b3cc
faulty procces id: 0x2d90
app start time: 0x01d74ca06c3f2eca
C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext\Radeonsoftware.exe
C:\Program Files\AMD\CNext\CNext\Qt5Qml.dll
report id: e78ed213-d5ff-4126-b134-ce74b00b44a4

I tried lining the times of this error occuring with the kernel 41 error under system section aaaaand...

Nothing. It seems pretty random as one is listed at a time where the other is not. The closest it gets is the yesterdays log where the radeon error is listed 3 minutes after the kernel error which does not even make sense since i did not even turn the computer on for a while after this happened yesterday.

Just in case i might have missed anything i will put the dates of when it happened here but im starting to think this might not be the reason.

Also both 1000 and 1002 are errors related to radeon software on the second picture
