Youtube not responding to earbud or headphone input

It doesn't happen all the time but sometimes, usually if I have been listening to something for a long time if I try to pause it with either my galaxy buds pro or my Sony wh-1000xm4 YouTube just won't listen, and I'll have to takr my phone out of my pocket and manually pause it to get the controls working again, and even that only works for a short time.
