New Build Assistance Requested

Budget (including currency): $1,000 - 1,500 USD

Country: USA

Games, programs, or workloads that it will be used for: Focused on game performance/ visuals

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): 

Don't need to do basic functions like word processing very often, I have my laptop for that

 

I am posting this on behalf of a work buddy [Honestly, I am] as I do not have the time to do the proper research for now.

 

My suggestions for this build would be a MATX or decent feature minimum ATX board with corresponding case sizes.

As for everything else the build can be spartan (or lacking in any RGB and fancy things).

Air cooled or water AIO cooled are options, as long as price is not exceedingly high.

GPU suggestions are obvious, decent but not crazy, NVIDIA 30XX is most likely not an option due to availability and price. I have considered telling him to get a used 1080 Ti and I might still do so, but I trust Ya'll to give promising ideas.

 

I know you guys can do wonderful things, so throw them suggestions at me and I'll sort through them in a day or so. Ask my questions and I'll answer them when I can.

I would give suggestions for new and used and I'll pass on both. This way he can plan out what he wants to do.

Here's a suggestion. I'm not familiar with most of these parts but it seems to me that this build would allow for decent 1080p gaming, and there's still some room for improvement if you're willing to spend up to 1500$. Depending on how much you're willing to spend you can try to find a better graphics card (and probably should if the main goal of the build is gaming). Or start setting up this PC with onboard graphics and scout for a better GPU on the used market..?

 

Idk, what do others think?

@Lairlair Thanks for the suggestion. As I said this isn't for me I just dont have the time to look newer hardware. Lol had to walk away from this topic for a while just to busy.
