Hi all,

I am currently in a one-man corporate video shop and we are growing to add a second editor/edit PC.

Using Adobe, I need a setup where the second editor can ingest locally, start a project, and then pass to me for edits and approval.

Our network is currently rigged with 1GB ports and Cat5e, so a quick NAS solution wont work with my current 6k BRAW format.

My thoughts (open to any ideas):

Expensive way: install a second network switch between the two PCs and run new Cat 6 lines to the two PCs.

Cheap way: (does this work?): Install a second NIC into each PC and just run a direct ethernet cord to the two PCs.

Your help is greatly appreciated!

Barry

Direct nic connections will work. You just have to configure them properly.

However do have a bit of future vision and weigh the costs. A 2.5gb network isn't really expensive anymore so doing a proper upgrade might be nice.

If anything make sure the new system has at least a onboard 2.5Gb nic then you can get a cheapo 1Gb nic to connect it to the internet and use the onboard for direct connection. Should be cheaper that way.

Thanks Jaslion. Good insight. My current rig has a 2.5 onboard, and I think most mobos have them now, so that's a good thought. Use onboard for direct connection, and a seperate nic for 1gb internet.

How do I need to configure them?

Pretty much this as far as I remember too. Might need to give a static ip adres
