So, I was planning to do a white build with a Ryzen 7 3700x, and wanted to get a X570 ASRock Steel Legend.

I won't do much overclocking, but I have heard mixed opinions on that motherboard.

Are the VRMs good enough, or will they heat up too much?

Is the power delivery bad/not enough?

Are the M.2 SSDs going to get too hot?

Cheers.

The steel legend would be perfectly fine for your build. I wouldn't really recommend it though. If you want as cheap of a decent board you can get, the MSi b550-pro vdh wifi will serve you perfectly fine provided you won't do more than enabe PBO. A step up above that would be the B550-A pro. Great budget board, great vrms. If you really want something white, I'd go for the strix b550-a. Comparable vrms to the a-pro, I beileve it has better IO.

I wanted to go for a X570 one tho.

Thunderbolt 3, PCI/e 8x for m.2 and the IOs tend to be a lot better. Also they're kind of more future proof right?

Sorry if I sound dumb, I've just been told X570 are better boards in general and wanted help choosing chipsets and motherboards. Thanks.

Thunderbolt 3, uhhh not very common iirc. 8x for m.2's, Not an issue I beileve unless you want to use multiple drives, Io, depends on the board, how much of what do you need? "Future proof" isn't really a word we like to use here, but from what I beileve you mean, it might help in some cases?

well if your going with more future proofing go with the x570 they can be more stable than the b series boards and yes the io can be better

I think I meant "better on future upgreadabilty", sorry if I used words that are bad around here. I do want to use multiple drives.

So... I haven't reached a conclusion, won't that X570 board be better for my system? I have a 225€ budget for the board. Sorry for making so many questions.

We usually don't judge by chipset. That board in particular isn't that great of a value. What specifically are you looking for in your motherboard and what's the rest of your build like?

I've been recomended the Aorus Elite and TUF Gaming X570 variants, but here they are more expensive than the Steel Legend.

My build would be:

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700X

Cooler: Stock

Motherboard: -------

RAM: Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 8X2 White

Case: Corsair 220t Airflow White

Storage: 2X 500GB NVME Crucial P5 and a 1TB WD Blue HDD

GPU: ASUS Pheonix 1050Ti (will upgrade once GPU's are available in mu country)

PSU: Corsair CX750f Black 80+ bronze

less prone to crashes when overclocking

Not how VRM setups work. The chipset doesn't affect the performance of VRMs. Specifically, there are actually very few x570's that outperform several b550s, none at the same pricepoint, and none by a significant amount. The B550 motherboards I'm referring to are the b550 aorus master and b550-unify/x They run for under $300. The x570's I'm regarding Crosshair VIII Hero/dark, $600-ish boards iirc, the Gigabyte x570 aorus extreme (a board that's over 1000 USD), and the MSI x570 godlike, a ~$650 board iirc. The Master surpasses the b550's, the rest of the x570's more or less trade blows with the b550s.
