Thermal Paste durability

em_lab

Hi In 2016 i buy a Noctua Cpu COOLER, i use then the thermal paste included for my build

then i well close the thermal paste tube.

Right now i buy a new CPU,

Can i use this thermal paste from the Noctua cooler now ? or i need to buy a new Thermal paste for my new CPU ?

Thanks in advance

Maybe that one - https://noctua.at/en/nt-h1-3-5g

NT-H1's unique formula is highly stable over time, even after longer periods of usage. It can be stored at room temperature for at least 3 years and due to the compound’s exceptional curing, bleeding, dry-out and thermal cycling characteristics, it can be used on the CPU for 5 years or more.

So it might be okay. I'd squeeze a bit of paste to a surface and see if it's homogenous.

I wouldn't recommend using because the components inside the thermal paste will get separated due to different densities and the paste wouldn't work as efficiently as it should....

You didn't mention what Noctua paste it was, so I assumed it was NT-H1

As I understood - you have some paste and wonder if it's "gone bad"?

Or you dont want to swap paste to new CPU?

Then yeah, as I wrote before - squeeze some of it on a surface and see if it has lumps or different textures/colors. If not, you're probably good to go.

But if installed and temperatures are bad you'd have to just remove it and apply a newer paste.

When you push the plunger and it shoots a little juice its no good. That means it has started to separate, and that is not ideal..
