It'd make more sense for you to go for a Xeon for a server as that's what they are meant for.

I would agree, you could go with somthing like an I7 but for price vs performance a xeon would be a much better option for vps hosting.

For a RuneScape Private Server (RsPs).

Why not rent a server from somewhere like ovh.net then? Your users will get a far better connection, unless youre willing to pay hundreds per month for a leased line, there will be no extra maintenence cost and there is no upfront payment for the hardware.

Ovh are kind of garbage. I've attempted to rent a dedicated server from them in the past on multiple occasions and every time I've given up and asked for a refund after around a month of waiting on each occasion (2 or 3 times). They're always oversold it seems.

Also, RSPS aren't demanding at all. You can run them on home internet speeds and very old rigs.

Some would perfer to host there own servers, I do and my Internet seems to do a decent Job.

I know a very beast company that sells a VPS for $13 a month. 32Gb RAM, 1GB & 200MBPS Speed. I'll just stick with them. Thanks.

I have used them for years and never had to wait more than a day for my servers to get set up. Their cheap tiers were sold out for a long time a few months ago.

A residential internet connection is not going to give a very good quality of service. Not needing good hardware is only another reason to rent it instead of buying one to set up at home.

It is for me, I run my servers from two 80mb/s download lines and upload is two 20mb/s lines. ( I basicly have two lines)

Lucky you. That sounds like the same time frame I attempted to rent from them.

Well, I used to be into RSPS when I was younger, a nice little way to earn some $ while I was in high school. It provided an ample gaming experience for my players, the only reason why I started using VPS's then was to free up my Computer. I never had an issue hosting the RSPS, players never had an issue either in that regard. My internet connection wasn't too great back then either.
