Budget (including currency): $1500 to $2000

Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Streaming, His favorite games are Doom eternal and Halo MCC, wants his PC to be good enough when Halo Infinite comes out.

One of my friends recently told me that he wanted to build a new PC for streaming and gaming. He told me that his budget is around $1500- $2000. I have created both an AMD list and an Intel list but I am having a hard time deciding between the two. Which one to go with?

Intel list:

AMD List:

Both are a pretty stout machine, i wouldnt be able to tell the difference in normal gameplay scenario (like, no fps counter, actually competitive settings). All i can say is you can go cheaper on AMD side to make it more suited to the heat output (because Castle series is a bad AIO series) and a tad cheaper:

How about if I switch the cooler to the Be quiet Dark Rock Pro 4 or the Noctua NH-D15.... Would that be better because I have never really heard of Scythe.

AMD is currently better for gaming, and 8 cores is definitely enough for streaming, so I'd go with that one.

One thing to note - You don't need Samsung 980 Pro; something like a WD SN750 will be just as good.

I would be inclined to agree with you, but the 10850k's lower price and 2 extra cores is pushing me more to recommend him the Intel build,

For the SSD, the 980 pro is overkill yes, but since it fits the budget why not have it in the list ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Theyre pretty good budget brand. Pretty obscure but their product punches well above its weight, im talking basically playing with the big dog you just mentioned. But between the 2, considering Noctua Chromax series availability right now, my vote is for the bequiet.

...Which doesnt matter as the 5800X has a gain in IPC and Cache Size. Those makes up for the lost cores, and by a lot.

Hmm, the difference between the 5800x and 10850k still seem very small to me. I'll let him know that it doesn't really matter if he goes Intel or AMD because both the 5800x and 10850k will suit his needs perfectly. I explained to him recently that both platforms are on the last generation and that next gen will be on different sockets with probably DDR5 memory so I asked him if he wants to build now or wait until Next gen, but seeing how hard it still is to find some 5000s CPUs *cough* *cough* 5900x and 5950 *cough* and how nowadays anything new that comes out is instantly being scalped and sold out for a long time. I think it would be better if he builds now

I just realized that you have changed the PSU to a cheaper one, The PSU is a place that I don't really wanna gamble with and I've never heard of Enermax so i think I will be sticking with the RM 850, as long as the budget is under $2000 he's okay with it.

Thanks for your help ❤️

10850k is $45 cheaper... But the motherboard is $40 more expensive, so you save $5 at a cost of lower gaming performance. And those extra cores will rarely be used - almost no game uses more than 6 cores, most use 4, and he'll use GPU encoding for streaming anyways.

Also, if you care about $(4)5 so much, why blow $60 on an enterprise level SSD.

That is not true. Ryzen 5000 series is current gen, Intel 10000 series is last gen - meaning no PCIe Gen 4 support (sued by the 3080), among others.

5800x is about as fast as 10900k yes, but 10850k is slower than 10900k by a few percent, so it's also slower than 5800x. Taking into account that he doesn't need 10 cores, I see no reason to go Intel here.

I'll be recommending to him the AMD list of course. by what I meant by last generation, I meant that Ryzen 5000s is the last generation that will be supported on the AM4 platform and that next generation will be on a different socket and different chipset, Sorry for the confusion.

And i would gamble with enermax because theyre actually a super solid obscure brand. Enermax has been in the game for a long time and people have rated it really well (That particular unit is A Tier on our tier list thread) and i know A LOT of Enermax powered PCs that still run like a champ. You should start researching into particular model, never brands. Because surprise surprise, Even good PSU brands have bad apples.
