Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Upgrading from a Haswell to Ryzen 3000 series

So, i've been thinking of finally upgrading my rig that i got as a gift back in 2018. It's a Haswell system with an i5-4460, RX 470, 16GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB SSHD, and a VS450 PSU.

I'm still going to use my RX 470 because GPU prices are still.... sh*t. but now comes a few question before i start planning, as i need help.

1. Do i need a fresh install of Windows if i want to upgrade my rig? because i want to migrate to an SSD for the OS drive, and i'm not sure if i can move the OS from my SSHD to my SSD

2. Can i use the A320 platform for a Ryzen 3000 series? realistically i'm never going to overclock so i thought why not, but i still need your thoughts

3. 3300X or 3600? i've been thinking of streaming, but i'm not sure if the 3600 is a necessity or that if i can get away with the 3300X

That's all the questions i have for now, but more will surface i'm sure. Thanks in advance

you can clone the drive and keep the OS, but if you're upgrading a lot of components i would recommend you do a fresh install anyways

3600 would be nice, you don't have an nvidia GPU so you may have to resort to CPU encoding if you don't like AMD's Encoder

check the CPU compatibility list in the motherboard's website

for example:

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

1.) You can migrate the OS, there's a lot of utilities that allow you to do that, though I personally recommend just doing a full reinstall just to make sure that there aren't any driver incompatibilities (unlikely but possible), and they can be an absolute pain trying to troubleshoot.

2.) A320 does not support Ryzen 3000 without some 3rd party BIOS mods, since AMD does not officially support A320 for it. Even if it did, it wouldn't be a great idea anyway, since A320 boards were made with the absolute cheapest components and probably wouldn't live (especially with the higher core count chips).

3.) You probably don't need the extra 2 cores of the 3600, but if you are streaming they are very nice to have, and with how little availability is for the 3300X anyway, you might end up spending less to get a 3600 anyway.
