I'm looking for an (ideally) free program that can encrypt / hide files in a folder on Windows XP, and would ideally like a program that has multiple levels of encryption e.g. multiple sets of passwords etc.

I have come across Renee File Protector before, but do believe this is a paid-only software (plus their website / download servers get blocked by Anti-Virus, so probably not supported any more)
My Lockbox by FSPro Labs looks interesting - but this only uses one / two passwords at the most (https://fspro.net/my-lockbox/)

If anyone knows of any programs that can password-protect / encrypt files with multiple passwords or security measures, your recommendations would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

As far as I know you're better of with a strong encryption than with multiple layers. At worst it makes it weaker, at best slightly harder to break. So my choice would be encrypt, then password protecet or vice versa and not much more. I don't know any software to do this to individual files, I used BitLocker on my laptop to encrypt the entire drive though. From what I could find XP has a built in function to make files/folders private with a password, that might be useful?

Crystal: CPU: i7 7700K | Motherboard: Asus ROG Strix Z270F | RAM: GSkill 16 GB@3200MHz | GPU: Nvidia GTX 1080 Ti FE | Case: Corsair Crystal 570X (black) | PSU: EVGA Supernova G2 1000W | Monitor: Asus VG248QE 24"

Laptop: Dell XPS 13 9370 | CPU: i5 10510U | RAM: 16 GB

Thanks for your reply.

I know Windows has the BitLocker Software, and probably an XP version too.

I have never actually been able to get Windows Password Protection to work, even on Win 7 and 10 - I check the box with the option, and it never asks me for a password (might just use my user account).

I'll see if the entire drive could be encrypted in XP, and will wait to see if anyone else responds with software recommendations...
