New laptop: R7 4800H or wait for R7 5800H ?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum as I am willing to inform myself some more before purchasing my new laptop and hear what you guys think about the options I am currently looking at.

At the moment I am studying still and need to work a lot with 3D programs like Autodesk (Revit, Autocad), SketchUp, Lumion, etc. Besides that I like to play some shooter games from time to time like CoD. Battlefield, Black Squad, etc.

As my current laptop can't even open Lumion anymore and becomes laggy even with Sketchup now it's time for a new one.

I am not a die-hard gamer but would prefer to look for a (semi-)gaming laptop though.

Also: I am planning to connect my laptop to an external monitor with keyboard and speakers when working from home. (As far as this is relevant)

I live in The Netherlands so I would prefer to buy a laptop within The Netherlands as well.

The requirements were:

- US keyboard layout

- 15.6" screen

- 16GB RAM

- AMD R7 4800H / RTX 2060 (or 5800H / RTX 3060)

- 1 TB SSD preferred, 512GB minimum

- Wifi 6

Preferred would be a number pad keyboard but it's not a must.

Also a 300+ nits display and 144Hz is preferred. Again, as I am planning to connect my laptop to a monitor at home this is not a 100% must.

My budget would be max. €1500,-  ($1.800 / £1300)

Currently I found the following laptops:

€1399,- HP Omen 15-en0810nd: AMD R7 4800H, 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, RTX 2060, wifi 6

https://www.mediamarkt.nl/nl/product/_hp-omen-15-en0810nd-zwart-zilver-1678425.html

€1349,- Asus TUF A15 FX506QM: AMD R7 5800H, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, RTX 3060, wifi 6

https://azerty.nl/product/asus/4416525/tuf-gaming-a15-fx506qm-hn052t-laptop-15-6-full-hd-ips-144hz

€1449,- HP Omen 15-en1150nd: AMD R7 5800H, 16GB RAM, 1 TB SSD, RTX 3060, wifi 6

https://unboundvr.nl/hp-omen-laptop-15-en1150nd-ryzen-7-rtx-3060-16gb

The first HP Omen is directly available but features the 4800H R7 and RTX 2060 as the other 2 options feature the newer and faster (?) 5800H and RTX 3060.

The Asus is also directly available, but the HP Omen en1150nd is yet to be expected. I contacted various Dutch retailers and all of them expected to receive the new 5800H Omen;s in about 2-4 months. But it could also be longer.

I need my new laptop at latest somewhere mid August so I'm not a hurry to purchase one. However the sooner the better 🙂

My question to you guys would be if it would be wise to wait until the newer 5800H Omen's get available here or just go with the 4800H / RTX 2060 one. Or is the Asus a good alternative for the HP Omen?

As I am planning to (hopefully) use this laptop for the next 5-6 years I would like it to be as furure proof as possible.

Basically the Asus TUF A15 ticks all the boxes right now but I am not 100% sure about the design and personally I prefer HP over Asus.. Also I prefer the more simple looks of the HP Omen.

A Lenovo Legion 5 is also within my interests but they seem to be hard to get with AMD R7's here in The Netherlands.

Would love to hear your thoughts on the above and perhaps I am missing some other models / brands which offer the same features, so feel free to share other suggestions!

Thanks from The Netherlands!

Legion 5 Pro is nowhere available here and same for the R7 + 3060 Omen’s... plus the Legion 5 Pro is currently over budget that I am looking to spend.

Dutch retailers do not expect stock before August/September here so that’s why I am considering the Asus TUF A15.

RUN from ASUS TUFF. Notorious heating problems make almost any spec version throttle to terrible performance. Unless you custom MOD them (I saw some YT vids of people making their own vent slits), practice caution when considering them.
