Anything You Would Change?

Forleb

Budget (including currency): kinda just grabbing what i can, very flexible

Country: US

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: 1440p Video Editing, some games

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc):

Not on a time constraint so I'm going my rounds with Newegg shuffles for a GPU, which puts my PSU and Motherboard in question since they bundle everything. I plan on snagging a 3060 Ti or 3070, and exempting the PSU and Mobo, here's what I have for the rest:

• Ryzen 7 5800X

• Cooler Master Hyper 212 Black

• 2x16GB Crucial Ballistix 3600MHz CL16

• 1TB Samsung 980 Pro (already in hand)

• Fractal Design Meshify C

• 6-pack of 120mm upHere fans

I do plan to go X570 and 750W respectively depending on whether i get tied into a board or a PSU.

Would consider a higher end cooler, but looks good other than that

Big nerd.

I would go with b550 unless you’re either extreme overclocking or need the usb ports.

what would your cooler choice be? a top mounted 240 rad is pretty appealing, but if you know of some comparable air coolers then I'd love to be enlightened.

Considering that it is overpriced, and that Intel 10th gen is fairly cheap, I'd get 10900(K). It's better and should be about the same price.

Somewhat true in games, but even Rocket Lake isn't up to par with Zen 3 in raw workload tasks, which is what will take up most of my time. I also don't plan on overclocking, which shines an even bigger spotlight on that 3.8GHz base. Zen 3 is getting mini-scalped in general anyways, so a 5800X at MSRP (which is ironically the price it's been stable at) isn't much of a loss to me when compared to the benefits over a 10900K or 3700X.

That is true, however 10900 has 10 cores compared to 8, so it still comes ahead in productivity unless you really need the single core performance - in that case 5800x makes sense. I don't really know what exactly are you using, so it's hard to say which is better for you.

You said you do "video editing", and according to benchmarks 10900K is 1% slower in DaVinci Resolve Studio 16, and 2% faster in Adobe Premiere Pro 2020.

It does not matter at all. When a core is used, it boosts to its boost frequency anyways, especially in single threaded workload.
