Which RAM Is Best?

Go to solution Solved by KingPizza,

So we've got 2 for 32GBs and 2 for 16GBs. Reading the comments I think I have an answer now. The 16GB kit will offer better performance in games, but the 32GB kit will be better for all the other stuff I plan to do. I don't mind sacrificing 2-3FPS if it means better VR and streaming performance.

Because of the Great GPU Shortage, I will be consolidating my active PCs down to 1, and need to know which RAM configuration will be best for my needs, as I have a couple options.

This is going to be a Mini-ITX build (so 2 RAM slots) with a 5800x and an RX 6800 XT. I want to use it for gaming, streaming (Twitch as well as Parsec streaming to other rooms and devices), VR, and Plex serving. The 2 RAM options are:

-32GB (2x16) 3600mhz, CAS 16

-16GB (2x8) 3800mhz, CAS 14

My gut feeling is to go with the 32GB option, as it's by no means slow RAM, but I just can't decide. Please help.

By going with the 32gb kit your leaving a little preformance on the table but not much. If you need 32gb go with it if not get the 16.

So, the ultimate question here is whether I need 32GBs of RAM or not. If anyone has any opinions on this based on my use case then feel free to weigh in.

for gaming, 16gb is good. I mean 3800 cas 14 is much much faster than 3600 at cas 16. The former is faster by roughly 16 percent. In games, this will prevent many dips from happening and allow you to gain higher FPS. To give you a ball park number, this would be 3~4fps increase in lowest 0.1%fps and 1% lowest 1%. The highest FPS will also gain roughly 3~4 fps.
