AM4 APU/CPU - advice needed

Hi guys,

Hopefully you can help me a bit further.

So I am building a new system, a simple pc next to my tv. I have bought the NZXT H1 already, and had a bargain on the ASUS ROG Strix X570-I Gaming motherboard - which has an AM4 socket.

Butt with the GPU shortages and the ridiculous prices for a decent GPU I have been looking into APUs, so I can buy a GPU later when the market is a bit more stable again.

Anyway, I am a bit stuck, since AMD doesn't have a lot of APUs. I have found the following 2 options:

- AMD Ryzen 5 3400G (€170)

- AMD Ryzen 5 Pro 4650G (€250)

For now it will be a simple pc, streaming some videos, playing some simple games (no new triple A games), so just for fun.

What would you recommend? Or perhaps a different unit?

Thanks a lot!

Eelco

If I'm not mistaken, their gaming performance is usually fairly close (with the 4650G pulling a slight lead), so I'd really just figure out how much CPU grunt you'll need when you do get a dedicated GPU (as you can always just disable the iGPU). If you're only going to need the 6C/12T that the 4650G offers, you may as well just get one of those.

Ryzen 5 pro 4650g have slightly better performance so i would suggest you to take that instead of 3400g
