Hi guys,

Audio is definitely not my strong point when it comes to tech. My speakers (particularly the subwoofer) emit a constant but quiet buzzing sound. It is only really noticeable when nothing is playing through them. Setup is as follows:

- Audio through HDMI out to monitor

- Audio out of monitor to speakers via 3.5mm jack.

Please help me sort this problem, it's getting irritating having to turn them off every time I go to bed. Any questions, just ask :) thanks.

You were a noob once too!

It's more than likely a 50 or 60 cycles ground issue. If you have your speakers on as well as everything else in your room and then one by one remove the other devices from the circuit, you should notice it disaper. When this happens, you'll have your culpirate.

If that doesn't happen and the noise still occurs, try other rooms as most circuits span two or three rooms in a normal house. If that doesn't fix it then it's most likely an internal issue. Is there a 3rd pin on the power cord for ground?

if that doesnt work dump the hdmi for audio and use the jack in the sound card or on the on board. hdmi isnt very well shielded so it can produce a fair bit of signal bleeding.

Thanks, I will try this later and get back to you. Yes, I am in the UK so there is a ground pin for every plug. I have read about ground loop isolators but I didn't want to buy one without first identifying the problem.

I am using a laptop so I have my headset connected to the headphone/mic ports for when I want to use that, and I use Soundswitch to switch between the two outputs. I do have a second 3.5mm jack on my laptop though so I will try using that and get back to you :)

Hi guys, I've got round to testing it all and I'm still none the wiser...

I tried unplugging everything other than the speakers and the buzzing is still present.

Even when the audio is input to the speakers is disconnected there is buzzing. Any other ideas? Faulty unit? :/
