So I have a Asus x570 pro mobo and Im getting a ram error with my corsair vengeance rgb pro White (4x16gb). I change my setup over to a b550-e (from asus) as a test bench and ram reads fine. Is the ram compatible with the x570 pro or is it possible that the DIMM slots are faulty?

There are two ways to look at this:

(1) Check the mobo's QVL (Qualified Vendor List) and see if they say the RAM has been tested on the mobo. If it's not listed, that doesn't mean it won't work, just they can't guarantee it.

(2) The gold standard for testing: MemTest86

(3) Put in 1 stick of RAM in one slot, see if you get the error. Wash rinse repeat with the other sticks.

(4) Then add two and test

(5) and so forth

(6) There is no (6)

So I tried 3 and 4 earlier and nothing changed. where do I find QVL and what is Memtest86?

Also I know that the 8gb version of my ram ( same speed, brand, color) works fine with the mobo. so what would cause the 16gb version not work? That just doesnt make sense to me.

The QVL will be in your mobo manual.

https://www.memtest86.com/

It's the Gold Standard in memory testing. If the RAM is bad, it WILL find it.

As to why the 8GB works and the 16GB doesn't, that's what the QVL is for, RAM comes in "densities", and perhaps the 16GB is simply not compatible.

https://panoramacircle.com/2018/08/07/high-density-vs-low-density-ram-why-it-crashes-some-computers/#:~:text=Density refers to the memory, less memory each in comparison.
