Budget (including currency): Not sure yet

Country: United Kingdom

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Music/Audio Workstation

Other details: My current workstation won't work on Windows 10 so need a new system (I bought Windows 10, tried booting which worked, however after being on for 30 second, blue screen of death)

Hello,

My current system is around 7 years old, I bought the parts in 2014 from Scan.co.uk and built it myself.

Spec:

Processor: 2 x Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2643, 4 Cores, 8 Threads, 10M Cache, 3.30 GHz, 8.00 GT/s Intel® QPI

Motherboard: ASUS Z9PE-D16 Serverboard

RAM: Kingston KVR16R11D4K4/64 64GB (16GB x4) DDR3 1600Mhz ECC Registered Memory RAM DIMM

I am looking at replacing this system with an equivalent. I'm looking at getting a system from Scan.com

I am going with the Custom PC Build "3XS Custom Xeon Scalable"

Processor: ???

Motherboard: ASUS WS C621E SAGE

RAM: 12 x 16GB Samsung M393A2K40CB2-CTD DDR4 Server RAM (192GB RAM)

I am wondering which of these Intel Xeon processors (x2) will give me the equivalent or hopefully slightly better performance than my current system.

2x Intel Xeon Silver 4208, S 3647, Cascade Lake-SP, 8 Core, 16 Threads, 2.1GHz, 3.2GHz Turbo, 11MB Cache, 85W, Retail [£792.91]

2x Intel Xeon Silver 4210, S 3647, Cascade Lake-SP, 10 Core, 20 Threads, 2.2GHz, 3.2GHz Turbo, 13.75MB Cache, 85W, Retail [£961.20]

2x Intel Xeon Silver 4214, S 3647, Cascade Lake-SP, 12 Core, 24 Threads, 2.2GHz, 3.2GHz Turbo, 16.5MB Cache, 85W, Retail [£1,306.34]

2x Intel Xeon Silver 4216, S 3647, Cascade Lake-SP, 16 Core, 32 Threads, 2.1GHz, 3.2GHz Turbo, 22MB Cache, 100W, Retail [£1,679.98]

2x Intel Xeon Gold 5218, S 3647, Cascade Lake-SP, 16 Core, 32 Threads, 2.3GHz, 3.9GHz Turbo, 22MB Cache, 125W, Retail [£2,370.98]

Thank you so much in advanced.

This may not be because of Windows, it depends on what the BSoD has to say, if you still have the install, find the crash dumps and upload them here, I can pinpoint what's going on.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

Also, any of those Xeons you listed will be fantastic, it's all a matter of if your applications like single core speed, or lots of threads/cores...something only you can answer

Thank you for responding.

I contacted ASUS and they said it's because the motherboard will not support windows 10. I reverted back to my Windows 8 Installation so I don't have those files sorry.

Thank you though.

Thank you. I was just put off by the clock speed of those silvers vs my old E5's. It's Cubase (Audio Workstation), I think it prefers more cores rather than a focus on speed, but I could be wrong.

That's not *entirely* true...all they are saying is they won't support it, not that it doesn't work. But nevermind.

Before spending that kind of dosh, find out, it would suck to buy the wrong thing at that price...

Hey, first i would try to find the reason for the BSOD but if you want to upgrade anyway. Maybe one of these chinese offerings might interest you.

https://de.aliexpress.com/item/4001051807122.html?spm=a2g0x.12010615.8148356.6.73af6d79Xaopt4

The 12 Core Xeon in the Bundle is a huge step up to your current one and the mainboard supports ddr3 and ddr4 so you can keep your current ram. Still you cant mix DDR3 and 4.

I already built a system using the F8 Motherboard and it works great, HUANANZHI is the best Chinese x99 Brand currently. They use refurbisehd intel server chipsets.

I also put one Xeon Silver in a comparison with your current cpu and my suggestions.

Thanks. the BSOD appears before I get chance to extract any files. Even in safe mode 😞
