Budget (including currency): $1000 AUD

Country: Australia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Video editing, gaming

Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): NO GPU IN $1000 RANGE

I'd appreciate if someone could make a parts list WITHOUT A GPU with most preferably a 5600x and lian li lancool 2 mesh case :)

With @davemc already making what i would recommend (which is an 11600K overclocked), im gonna give AMD alternative.

The former still pretty scalped in AU market, and a 3600 can still keep up with it especially above 1080p. If you can afford to wait, get it at MSRP price of 380 AUD or so when the stock sits back to normal instead of the 3600 in this list.

Already got a 3070

ha ha.... good answer.... changes the scope for the rest of the build quite a lot.... and justifies the R5 3600X!!

BTW - check out the HardwareUnboxed reviews (fellow Aussies on YouTube)... they did some interesting analysis on how much CPU you needed to get the most out of an RTX3070.... they found in some of the more extreme examples, where something like a R5 2600 with a RTX3080 was actually slower for most gaming than even a RTX3060 with the same CPU.... can't recall where the crossover points were....
