I've been thinking of building a massive render farm out of decommissioned server hardware for awhile, and I was scrolling through craigslist and found someone selling 16 core opteron 6376's for 5 bucks a pop. The cache size isn't awful and for 5 bucks I can't see any harm in it. The issue is that I can't find any cheap-ish motherboards for the system. I'm looking for a quad socket config and that's about my only stipulation. Any thoughts?

Well would you look at that: Linus made that exact same build like 4 years ago.

I was unaware of this. I looked into it and the board he used is hard to find for under $800 right now. For that price I would go and buy a 1950x setup.
