First and foremost I'm very new to this (forum and any rules it may have as well as novice computer tinkerer), my apologies in advance if i'm not clear ect. I have a Ryzen chip on an Aorus x570 master. I bought it second hand with 16g of ram pre-installed (2x8g installed in slots A2 and B2) I did my best research and budgeting and got 2 more of the exact set of ram sticks. I've read (if i had the cash) that set of 4 would work better than 2 sets of 2, but that wasn't an option. Both the ram I bought and that which was pre-installed are as follows: gskill 8gb 1.35v 3200 cl14-14-14-34. Upon adding my two new sticks I entered bios right away to check my work. My ram speed decreased from 3200 to 2400. As I tried to examine things further I noticed I still only had 2 sticks of ram registering however... Instead of A2 and B2 my bios only recognized A1 and A2 as occupied slots and nothing showed in B1 or B2.

So I started sweating. I turned pc off, disconnected power, reseated Ram and Viola... the exact same outcome. I got nervous that I couldn't even get the XMP enabled to get my speed of 3200 back or not.

I decided to remove the new sticks I added one at a time. So after removing power removed a stick from A1 slot and booted into bios. This time only registering 8g of ram (despite 3 being filled).

So after getting increasingly nervous I removed power, removed the second new stick of ram from B1, and booted into bios. So now I'm back to the original sticks of ram that came pre-installed in my MOBO and I was able to enable XMP and get my RAM speed back to 3200. So I'm tired now, I can't play with it any more tonight and maybe not even the rest of the weekend. I'm hoping that everything stays stable since I didn't really do anything except try to put it back exactly how I got it. I could just use some advice because I was really hoping to make use of my new RAM. So if anyone has any pointers or questions please let me know and I'll do my best to respond right away! Please and thank you!

I had a similar problem when upgrading my ram. G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory. I got the same set of cards, but when I opened up the bios the speed was slowed down to 2888. I had to "Overclock" the ram to get the default speed. I get the BSOD at least once a day. Best of luck to you.

Zen+ user here, i need 1.35 to get anything north of 3000 (got it at 2800, but my stock speed is 2666, so it is overclock)

To OP: try overvolt. It might help.

@ Masterpayneio My issue was that the bios was registering the Ram strangely. The original setup I had(and went back to) is an 8g in A2 slot and 8g in B2 slot. No problems there, looks like XMP takes care of the speed. when I put my new sticks in A1 and B1. My bios still only recognized 16g of Ram, however it was reading it from A1 and A2. Despite B2 being populated since I've had this computer, neither that nor B1 was recognized. Just now I booted into Bios and turned XMP off and came here to check for any other potential info. I'll try adding my new RAM again and keep everyone posted. Thanks for the help so far!

So I tried it again with xmp off and clearing cmos. Still no luck. Im going to power down and remove A1 and B1 to utilize dual channel memory. At the Aorus screen it flashed something about "training...dimm" but it was too quick to read or snap a pic. Something I did last night was take out the new ram sticks one by one. When I pulled out the stick from A1 (A2, B1,B2 populated with 8g each) I booted into bios and checked again only to find that instead of 16 or 24g total only 8 showed. I did not take note of which slot was reading the stick.

I've read that I can try cleaning the little gold fingers with 70% alcohol may help? But for now I'm still trouble shooting. Thanks for any help!

I was just going to recommend that. I would recommend as high of an alcohol concentration as possible. I use 99%.

Mine did that shortly, what I ended up doing was putting the "older set" of ram into the secondary slots, and the new ram into the primary slots. For me, primary slots are 2&4, secondary slots are 1&3. Though I doubt it will help you in your current situation, may be worth a shot after cleaning.

Quick update. I cleaned the ram, and tried multiple configurations for the ram on the motherboard before deciding that one of the 2 new sticks was bad. I got a refund on amazon, and got a new pair from the same seller and popped them in with no problem. I do have a side note though...

Something I didn't expect nor have I read anything like this online beforehand was that the bad stick threw off the entire channel. My Mobo has 4 slots and 2 channels so if i'm not making sense what I mean is this; with 4 sticks in there my Mobo only recognized 2. If I removed the bad one my Mobo recognized 3. I'm sure lot's of people out there know that/have had the same issue but for me as a newbie my mind was blown.

Either way all is well now, thanks for the help!
