Other details :

I wanted to start this off with I know now is a really bad time to try and build a PC but this is mostly for getting info for when things become available. I am planning to wait until later this year or even next year to actually start my build but now I am just gathering info. I want to build a computer that can still be relevant for the next 5 years or more or at the very least require minimal upgrades. I tried to over build it a bit when picking the parts. I am going into graduate school for engineering and my laptop can't hang with the workload. I use lots of CAD modeling and simulations such as stress simulations in solidworks. Additionally I need a computer that can process large data sets without me having to wait 30 minutes. In addition to the work upgrade I want to be able to game. Currently I have an XPS 15 2 in 1.

This is the parts I was thinking of going with;

Like I said earlier I know that I can't buy half the stuff on the list right now but I am hoping availability gets better towards the end of the year.

Can this setup handle workloads as well as gaming? Are there any parts that I should switch out?

Looks good to me. I would probably opt for 64gb of ram if you are doing lots of cad and simulation work. Idk what you currently have on your listed ram as it doesn't say what size it is. Also there might be better things out by the time availability gets fixed so I would check back in closer to the time of purchase.

The MSI X570 Gaming Pro Carbon isn't a very good board in terms of VRM. If you want X570 and MSI then the X570 Tomahawk is much better. You could save money with something like the B550 Gaming Edge Wifi or Asus B550-F etc if you don't need more than 1 x Gen 4 M.2 connector.

A Corsair RMx 1000W is around $100 cheaper. You would probably be fine with 850W but no harm in going with a 1000W.

The Samsung SSD's are usually overpriced. You can probably get something like a Corsair MP600 Force, WD Black SN850 or Sabrent 4.0 etc for less.
