Moore's law at work right there. I'm young though but I remember when a really  good gaming pc back in highschool had at least 8 gigs of memory  now these days 16 is starting to not cut it with all the stuff a person may want to run and 32 is starting to become a new standard for what is considered really good and nice to have rather than be overkill. like years back. It's still technically overkill for almost every individual but for a power user/s multi tasker is a definite nice to have not having to worry about closing ram intensive applications just to play a game
