Windows 10 partially unresponsive

Go to solution Solved by Electric_Cowboy,

It was NZXT CAM the whole time.

Ok, so I have a issue that's been plaguing me for months now and I cant figure out what is wrong. So after about a day of running smoothly my computer becomes partially unresponsive. The mouse still moves around just fine. The windows that I had open are still up and I can move them around the desktop. I can right click to bring up menus but when I click on something I does nothing. If I have a window open and try to close it it either does nothing or it closes but stays in the task bar. I can open the windows menu and click shutdown but the shutdown never happens. I can't open new windows or programs. All of this doesn't happen immediately. I takes about a day for this to happen.

System Specs:

  • 3770k
  • GTX670
  • G.Skill Sniper F3-17000CL9Q-16GBSR
  • Asus z77 Sabertooth
  • 2x Samsung 1tb 850 evo SSDs in RAID 1, running raid from the motherboard controller

Things that I have tried.

  • I have run CPU and RAM tests
  • I have a raid 1 so I pulled one SSD, still happened, Tried pulling other SSD, Still happened
  • removed 2 sticks of RAM, Then tried removing and replacing with the other 2
  • shutdown and restart
  • installed latest graphics driver
  • updated windows to latest drivers
  • tried killing all programs in the background and uninstalling the anti-virus
  • performed a windows recovery with a fresh install of windows software keeping my files intact
  • performed a fresh install of windows and GPU driver
  • used the DDU utility to make sure the drivers were all cleaned out
  • I had an overclock of 4.1Ghz but I removed the overclock
  • The ram was running in XMP at 2133Mhz but now is only 1600Mhz default
  • temperatures stay below 50c because I have it delidded and a nice cooler
  • GPU is volt and shunt modded but not running an overclock at the moment

Any help or suggestions of things to try would be great!

try reinstalling the os but back up your files on a seperate hard drive

Just ordered a new SSD. Something small to test my hardware with. I'll pull all of my hard drives out, remove the RAID settings, install this one, load windows and see what happens. If it still happens I know it's a hardware issue with the mobo, cpu, gpu, or ram. Might be time for an upgrade anyway.

Just read some through the forums. NZXT CAM might be the culprit. Uninstalling and testing now.
