Which Linux distro is the best?

FerenOS is for know-nothing newbs from Windtupooze.  It may be slow with your specs, in which case go with Lubuntu as that ugly madman above suggests

I know I started Linux with Xubuntu and it's still my favorite. It's light, it's pretty (to me at least) and I found it fairly straightforward. But for a first time user, I think like others have said that PopOs is a great choice.

I second to Lubuntu. With 4 gigs of RAM, every 100 MB make a difference, and the difference between Lubuntu and, e.g. Kubuntu is the difference between 300M and 900M RAM consumption on startup (=extra several chrome tabs you can safely open without running into the need to use the swap partition).

I never had experience with hardware not working out of the box on Linux, but YMMV. As for games, I assume with your specs you won't be playing anything modern anyway (and retro titles can easily run either natively or via Steam's Proton).
