I’ll start off by saying, I am near my wits end. This all started MONTHS ago when I had purchased a prebuilt with a 6800 XT that I couldn’t get a display on. I RMA’d that and spent a few extra dollars and got a 6900 XT thinking what are the chances I’d have the same issue... well here I am.

CPU: Ryzen 5900x
GPU: XFX Speedster Merc 319 RX 6900 XT
Motherboard: Gigabyte Aorus Master X570
Memory: G. Skill Trident Z Neo 3600 MHz 4X8GB F4-3600C14D
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 P2
Storage: 2TB M.2
Monitor: BenQ3270u

What I’ve done:

  1. Flashed BIOS to f32.
  2. Reseated EVERYTHING. 14 times.
  3. Checked all components with a working GTX 1660
  4. Uninstalled, deleted, reinstalled drivers.
  5. Checked that system recognizes the card via device manager.
  6. Checked the system power draw.
  7. Tested on monitor and tv
  8. Tried DP 1.4 and HDMI 1.2
  9. Changed PCIe slots from 4.0 to 3.0
  10. Tried all PCIe slots

What I haven’t done yet:

1. Trying a PCIe riser. The motherboard chipset fan pushes on the card and I never get a good click when seating it. It is definitely secure but I wonder if there is some pressure on the slot, causing issues.

2. Trying another motherboard. I have another motherboard that came with the prebuilt. I also was originally having issues with that one.

3. trying a PSU with a higher wattage rating. The card says it requires a minimum of 850w PSU, which is what I have so I’m not sure why this would be the issue but I will attempt.

4. Under device properties I get the following error: “Windows has stopped the device because it is reporting problems (code 43).” I need to research this and see if I can correct it.

I am not sure what the chances are of me receiving two faulty graphics cards but I’d like to believe they are slim and am hoping that this is some kind of user error...

I have posted this on a few other forums with no responses so any suggestions or assistance is appreciated.

Hey JWroble611,

Do you use custom cables on your PSU? Cable extensions?

That reminds me a bit of the bitwit situation on his AMD build.

Any chance you can have a lend of a PSU from a friend?

Since it's a prebuilt, could they have messed up something in cable routing (EPS instead of PCI E?)

VESA certified cable?

Try all the HDMI cables at home ^^'

hoping anyone has some kind of suggestion.

I mean,  there's a million possibilities,  psu being one,  but it's really hard to pin point, could also be a pcie4 issue, but I only have one suggestion,  ask them to maybe use a motherboard that does *not* interfere with the gpu,  cause that would probably be a good start.

PS: ah, another one, i see you already tried pcie3.0, I do think the idea with the riser isn't even half bad, just make sure *all* cables are connected properly,  don't use extensions cables where not necessary and get a high quality riser obviously... i mean that's something you could try before sending everything back i guess 🤷

I don’t have any custom cables or extensions. I have tried 3 different PSUs. I I have even tried it in someone else’s set up who normally uses a 5700 xt with no luck. All cables have been checked and I have tried a multitude of vesa and non vesa certified DisplayPort and hdmi cables of different ratings.

I appreciate your response but looks like it’s getting sent.

  • 1 year later...

I am having a similar problem with my PC.  I have had my GPU for over a year and a half. One by one my display ports were dying and not being responsive. I did not trust to go into any of the settings to fix it myself and cause any more issues so I sent it in for RMA after video recording the state in which my card was in proving there was no damage done to it. Two months went by and I received an Email from them stating and I quote

"The GPU did not post on our test benches with the display connection - I tried it with the HDMI connection, and was able to get a post.

We are now waiting for a replacement for you. Once your replacement has been tested and is ready to be shipped you will receive a tracking number."

That week I got my new gpu back with the screws not screwed in all the way on the back of the backplate and I have not tried to even attempt to screw them down further. 1 month later and 2 of my Display Ports have died in the same day today. The HDMI works fine just like last time. Should I just sell the card and buy an NVidia gpu?

Things I did:

1) Updated Windows.

2)Updated gpu Drivers.

3) Checked system recognizes card.

4)Turned it Off and back ON.

5) Switched Bios to OC mode.

6)Tested the cables with my Rx580.

7) Unplug and plugged monitors back in.

8) Swapped Monitors.

9) Unplugged and plugged PC.

10)Changed PCIe slots.

11) Updated BIOS.

12) Restarted PC.

13) Clear the CMOS.

Haven't done:

1) Reseat the Ram.

2) Try another Mobo.

PC Specs.

CPU: Ryzen 7 3700x

GPU: Powercolor Red Devil 6900 XT

Motherboard: ASUS ROG Strix B550-F Gaming (WiFi 6)

Memory: Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 32GB (4x8GB)

PSU: Corsair RMX Series, RM850x, 850 Watt, 80+ Gold Certified, Fully Modular Power Supply (CP-9020180-NA)

Storage: 3TB of ssd's 1 WD_Black SN750 1TB NVMe Internal Gaming SSD - Gen3 PCIe 1 WD_BLACK 1TB SN750 SE NVMe Internal Gaming SSD Solid State Drive - Gen4 and 1 WD Blue 3D NAND 1TB Internal PC SSD - SATA III

Monitors: Dual 24 inch Onn 1080p screens from Walmart.

I am currently using my last and final DP on the card. The previous 2 refuse to work while the HDMI is perfectly doing fine. It is as if it is actively mocking me for not being a bigger pc nerd enthusiast. I'm not gonna lie. I could simply not know what I'm doing and there be a simple solution for this. Please help this unlearned fool. I would greatly be grateful if I don't need to go without another GPU for 2 more months trying to RMA it.
