AMD 5700XT crashing

Go to solution Solved by LFL,

You probably want some more elaboration. You can check this thread on the amd forum.

But I can recap, had this exact issue myself. Something is wrong with quite a few ryzen 5000 chips. It is unclear whether this is a hardware defect or simply sh**ty bios. It doesn't really matter either way, because as of today there are no known ways to fix it.

You can try disabling core performance boost in the bios, for most people that fixed the issue, but they lost about 20% of performance.

Basically there are a ton of bios options you can try, I (and many others) have spend a few months trying to fix it in the bios, but to no avail.

Most people suggest an RMA and you may get lucky with the replacement. I did send back mine last week. I have currently a 3600 as a stand in cpu and since then I have 0 issues. I've written about my experiences in this post.

I have the GIGABYTE Radeon RX 5700 XT DirectX 12 GV-R57XTGAMING OC-8GD (rev. 2.0) and when i play certain games it will fully crash me and restart my pc (R6S after a little bit of time, and i just tryed outriders and it only last 10 sec cant get past the title screen) any one have any solutions (I have a 5800x,x570 tuf mb, 750w ps) i have had it happen once when skipping alot of times in a movie on my pc.

Hello, and welcome to the ltt forum.

Don't Panic.

First, please list your full system specifications.

Second, how are the temperatures of the components.

Gpu: gigabyte 5700xt oc-8gd rev 2

mb: asus tuf gaming x570 wifi

cpu: amd 5800

Psu: 750w g

and my temps never go above 70

i sometimes get a message saying wattman error but when trying out outriders it didnt popup

Hey hey.

Could you see what error is present in the windows event viewer at or after the crash?

As you have a 5800x it could be a processor issue, I had similar crashes.

Did you just build this pc? Or was it upgraded?

I built it a while ago all brand new and im not to techy so idk now how to veiw windows event viewer but i mostly pops up in the adrenaline softwareimage.thumb.png.c48804af4f2d4f5b1fd84b3cfd9e5ef0.png

Likei said it only happens with xertain games i Can play yakuza like a dragon No problems at all and a decent amount of games i only really have trouble with a few games everytime (R6S, and when i tried outriders) ive had a few do it at first but they stopped when i managed to get em to play like fall guys.

Yeah, this can mean a lot of things unfortunately.

You can access the event viewer by right clicking on the start menu icon, and select event viewer from there.

Then on the left pane, select windows logs, and then system. We are interested in the log entries that are marked "Critical" or "Error".

Do you use custom OC Settings in Radeon software? This may causes your crashes.

What driver version are you running on?

Radeon Software lets you choose between Stable (WHQL) and Newest.

Ryzen 5 3600 | Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 | XFX 6700XT 319 Black | 16GB 3200Mhz CL16 | 600W BeQuiet  Pure Power 11

Good news: Your vga is fine.

Bad news, you probably need to rma the cpu.

check bios, and check what version PCIE is running at.

you can also turn on airplane mode on your pc and run ddu to uninstall and reinstall your adrenaline drivers, make sure you have all the drivers for your motherboard, particularly for the chipset.

I'd suggest to RMA it even if it works with cpb disabled, because clearly your processor is not working as it should out of the box. And these bad boys are pretty expensive to do that.

I know it's a crappy situation, I was pretty disappointed myself. I've owned at least 10 ryzens so far and all of them worked correctly but the 5900x. It doesn't help things that everything is out of stock.

I've flat out asked AMD support if this is a known bios issue, because then I can wait a few months for a decent bios. But they didn't reply directly, they just said that they understand I want a replacement. So I was like.. well if this is no bios issue then yeah.

Well anyway, it's up to you, just wanted to add some extra information, maybe that can help in making a decision.

Yeah, I've heard that amazon butchered the ryzen deliveries. To be fair the 5000 series packaging is pretty poorly designed if you ask me. They could have just put the cpu-s in a smaller box that wraps more tightly around the plastic packaging. Instead we got a bigger, mostly empty box. I remember it was really underwhelming to unbox... 😅

But your cpu was probably fine, I got mine from a different retailer and it was in mint condition. I've also checked the pins on it before I sent it back and everything looked perfectly fine. So at this point I'm down to either the TSMC process is not up to snuff or the IO die is poorly made. Or maybe just some bios thing. Who knows at this point.

What's strange is that nobody seems to be aware of these issues. I know that quite a few people have reached out to Steve from Gamer's Nexus and to Jay's 2 cents as well, but so far nothing came of it.
