What would you recommend? I'm seriously looking into the new M1 Mac mini, it's looking a bit spicy.

I wouldn’t lock yourself into a mac mini. There is no windows and most of the advantages of arm are portable. I guess if all you are doing it chrome and word it’s good, but then that begs the question as to why you need a new computer?

If you were to get a mac, I would get a macbook air and use it as a laptop and plug it into a dock to get a desktop

I would get a Mac because I'm looking into video editing for my iPhone, mostly gaming, and hopefully some photoshop work, and photo editing. I do zoom classes, and my current school issued 2015 MacBook Air with the Intel Core i5-5250U, and 128GB SSD isn't cutting it. I'm already a fan of MacOS, because it runs so well on older hardware, (Granted the school won't let us update from High Sierra to Catalina or Big Sur), and my only experience with Windows has been terrible. Old laptops don't last at all, especially budget ones. I got an HP x360 Pavilion with a Pentium CPU and a stupid HDD. It's not the best experience. But the reason I'm looking into a PC, is because my mom, she is a Windows power user. Nothing is changing her mind about it. I don't like Windows as much, but because my mom needs it, I have to look into it.

i see, my recommendation of which mac to get is what I already said. If you do not need to run any games on your computer, then honestly M1 macs are the best value computers out there.

Cool!, but I will eventually need to get one for my mom, as she relies heavily on x86 apps, that either don't have native ARM compatibility with the new M1 or don't have a MacOS port at all. She uses a Windows laptop for school and work, and those apps, aren't readily available yet on MacOS.
