Hi there, i am planning on buying a new gpu and i have option between 6800XT(Power color red dragon) and 3080(inno 3d ichill)

Where as 3080 is a couple of bucks costly than 6800XT and i'll be using it for vfx and gaming(1440p max resolution). Is 3080 worth the extra bucks or not?

P.S i am going with R5 5600x (processor)

Oh and the prices for gpu are ₹20,000 to ₹40,000 above MSRP.

If your main goal is VFX then the extra vram in 6800XT will definitely help you in your simulations or renders, but if you're looking for both gaming and vfx, I'd suggest going for 3080. The CUDA cores will let you use Octane for renders and the nvenc encoder for rendering videos faster, plus the better driver support in Nvidia gpus

Edit: I don't know if your 5600x might become a bottleneck for 3080 because Nvidia GPUs are much more cpu dependent

These two graphics cards perform similarly. On synthetic benchmarks 6800xt is faster. On real gaming, 3080 is faster in most AAA titles (~2% difference on average)

I think the biggest factor to consider is your monitor and ray tracing.

First, if you have a free sync monitor, I'd say 6800xt.

If you have a gsync monitor, 3080.

Second, do you care about ray tracing? Seeing that you are building a gaming rig, I think ray tracing would be fun to mess around with.

I think ultimately, you can't go wrong with both. But I say 3080 if you must buy.

But personally, I would say hold off on either of these purchases because

1) 3080tis have been filed with ECC recently, which means they will be released soon (1~2 months)

2) many speculators are claiming that cryptocurrency (esp. bitcoin and Ethereum) will take a 70% nose dive real soon. This would flood the market with cheap GPUs. But we don't know when this will happen. I am not sure what "real soon" means.

3) I don't want to enable scalpers or companies that think it is okay to jack up the price like this
